if only
if only
there was enough verse in song to express
the timeless intimacies of how it feels to be caught out
by your hourglass presence.
instant need for gratification.
if only
loneliness played out
like a song over movie credits
as you woke to meet, an awakening of you.
fingertip touch broke a mooning evening.
if only
a love song could ease, just as easily
sight of you laying down arms.
another moonless night
stood on the edge of sentimental cliché.
no stars big enough steal my attention.
do we ever sound the same
when mimicking the other’s actions?
by a doorway, we stand to applaud the rainfall
until traffic lights turn green
and remind us it’s time to go.
That last line is killer. Nicely done.
Wow
