A bookstore can be as magical as the books contained inside. Your memories of San Francisco has me remembering my time inside the city by the bay. I guess maybe I too left my heart in San Francisco. Thanks for your story.

North Beach is a sacred spot in America. Every writer should make a pilgrimage to the Poetry Room in City Lights Bookstore. Something seeps into us there.

Please say that you visited a Zen Buddhist temple while in SF or environs. I would like to do that myself after studying Eastern faiths & philosophies from adolescence to the present day. Eastern schools of thought have so much to offer.

You would like the book " The Empty Mirror ". It's a well - done narrative by Janwillem van deWettering about his experiences in a Zen monastery in Kyoto. I still have a paperback version somewhere hereabouts.

" What is the face you had before you were born ? " I also had a large anthology of Buddhist & Hindu essays by Lin Yutang, which belonged to my late brother. NO IDEA what happened to it. My evangelical cousin probably burned it, I shouldn't be too surprised.
